Jamie Corey

Corey: Sustainability from the bottom up

Two years ago, I started to pursue a passion, which involved changing the way I thought about my everyday consumption.
I stopped eating meat, started to use my bike more for transportation, quit supporting the plastic bottle industry and have now decided to find a career that contributes to a sustainable future of this planet.  However, it is time that more than a handful of us get involved with this movement.

Knake: Have you asked yourself, WBF?

“WBF?” stands for “Want Better Food?” and is the campaign slogan for a senior colloquium final project.

Riebhoff: Four years of memories from across campus and beyond

As my last dead week comes to a close and May Term shines like a beacon on the horizon, I begin to think back on my four years at good ‘ol SimpCo.
Some of my greatest college experiences don’t come from the classroom, but from the college experience I had elsewhere.

Reid: Next year, SGA won’t be the only letters at meetings

A big congrats and a good luck to all the new Student Government Association members elected for next year. The student body is counting on your fair decisions.

Franker: The communication breakdown

Students with double and even triple majors sometimes have conflicts with classes or graduation requirements. Instead of completely shutting students, professors in different deparments should work together to help students graduate on time.

Schettler: Forget sentiments, the true guide to life at Simpson

It’s that time of year again, the final issue of The Simpsonian. Tradition calls for a sentimental and yes, often corny, reflection of the past four years. I’m bucking the trend. Instead, I’ll let you in on the real truths of Simpson College.

A tip of the hat and a wag of the finger...

Our View

There’s a lot going on a Simpson College right now – so much that we couldn’t pick just one issue. We’ve borrowed a page from Stephen Colbert to give our own list of things and people around campus we’ve been talking about.
A tip of the hat to Bruce Wilson on his career at Simpson College as the men’s basketball coach. After many years and many memories we wish him the best of luck in the future. Also to Charles Zanders who will take the helm for the Storm.

Student leaders should be recognized, and they are, over and over

Our View

We all know there are great leaders across Simpson's campus. How many organizations and awards do we need to recognize them?

Volunteer efforts valued, recognized at Simpson College

Our View

Small Simpson College put up big service numbers to win a nation-wide service competition.
Once again, Simpson has walked away with a distinguished service award.
The competition involved over 700 colleges and universities across the country.

Spring break a time to relax while still using common sense

Our View

These upcoming days of sun-filled fun have been much awaited by many students. But as many of us will have heat waves and sunshine somewhere down south, we want you to remember that you’re representing Simpson.

New housing lottery system diminishes students’ hard work

Our View

A little bit of luck mixed with a semester’s hard work can get you a decent lottery number when it comes to signing up for housing next year. Well, at least that used to be the case.
Simpson students may be shocked to learn that after this year academic standing will not take part in the housing lottery system.

Letters to the Editor

Education is a partnership, not something students purchase

Letter to the Editor

Dear Mr. Customer, I was saddened and dismayed that Drew Riebhoff (“This is Simpson, How may I help you?” April 18) views of the college as a customer-based business. When you go to college, it is not the same thing as buying an I-pod or a Chevy.

Sorenson: Student input went into housing lottery change

Letter to the Editor

My name is Joseph Sorenson and I am a member of RHA, the group that collaborated with the Residence Life Department in making the decision to take away the point deduction for housing.
